#GLturns10: Frankie’s Corner

Frankie sticks it to Daniel Lantz and Holger Graf asking tough questions and demanding direct answers. Read the full transcript of Frankie’s tell-all bombshell interview with the guys that take turns walking her.

How did the idea for Graf Lantz come about?

Daniel: Great question, Frankie. Really, Holger and I have been creatively chipping away at what’s now Graf Lantz our entire lives, from his early interest in textile to my various unlikely sources of inspiration from around the globe. As far as when/where the first mention of doing this company came from, we don’t really know. He says a cafe in Munich. I say a diner in Denver. We’re probably both wrong.

Why felt?

Daniel: “Why not?” Ok, so while there’s a lot of truth in that sentiment, as different as Holger and I are one big thing we have in common is a shared affinity for smart, functional, chic products existing in the world. And we weren’t seeing that with felt much, particularly in fashion, which is our…bag…<– get it? Whatever, it’s funny.

If you say so, dude. Anyway, What’s a common denominator with all of your products?

We strive to create products that are not only attractive but also serve a reliable purpose in people’s lives. We look at bags as tools.

Holger: Functional iconicism. We can’t tear ourselves away from it. We strive to create products that are not only attractive but also serve a reliable purpose in people’s lives. We look at bags as tools. Our signature material wool felt was chosen largely for that reason, and we also incorporate other natural and sustainable materials like cotton canvas and vegetable tanned leathers to create subtly eye-catching products that last forever.

Where does your inspiration come from?

Daniel: All over. Literally. From my movement around the world, particularly Japan, to Holger’s ingrained German heritage work style and workflow, we tend to return to our experiences to give us clarity in any given situation. Like any company, we’re ever-evolving…eh, I don’t wanna give away too much here. Let’s just say we’re really excited about our future as a company.

Tell me about that future.

Daniel: We do plan on being the first fashion felt distributor on Mars.
